Fire crews battle major fire in Hume overnight
ACT Fire & Rescue have contained a major fire inside a recycling facility in Hume overnight.
At approximately 10.40pm ACT Fire and Rescue received a single report of a fire inside a recycling facility at the intersection of John Cory Rd & Recycling Rd.
The first arriving appliance reported active fire inside the building at the facility and further resources were deployed.
During the height of the blaze 18 appliances from ACT Fire and Rescue were in attendance attacking the fire from the air and ground.
The fire was eventually contained within the building about 4 hours after the initial call.
A significant amount of smoke remains in the surrounding area and as a precaution close all windows where any smoke plume may be present.
The warehouse recycling facility is approximately 100m x 30m in size and significant amounts of work will need to be undertaken over several days to ensure complete extinguishment.
ACT ESA advises the fire is expected to burn into the early hours of the morning and fire control has commenced.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
ACT Policing and Ambulance were also in attendance providing assistance to fire crews.
