Firefighters have extinguished a grass fire in the Lower Molonglo area this afternoon.

At about 3.15pm, ACT Fire and Rescue responded to reports of a grass fire on Stockdill Drive.

Upon arrival, crews reported a large fast moving grass fire and requested further resources to the area.

Firefighters from the ACT Rural Fire Service and ACT Parkes and Conservation Service responded to the scene and assisted in containing the fire burning in steep terrain.

By about 4.15pm the fire was brought under control after burning through an area of about 2 hectares.

The cause of the fire is unknown and is currently being investigated.

ACT Policing were also in attendance.
