Firefighters contain fire at an electric scooter battery storage facility in Fyshwick
Firefighters have contained a fire at an electric scooter battery storage facility in Fyshwick this evening.
Just after 5pm ACT Fire and Rescue responded to reports of a Structure Fire on Geelong Street.
Firefighters arrived to find smoke coming from a block of units.
The smoke was determined to be coming from some batteries in one of the units.
ACT Policing assisted with clearing any occupied buildings as a precaution in the area due to potential hazardous gases.
An ACT Emergency Services Agency spokesperson said Firefighters will continue to monitor the batteries overnight to ensure there is no residual heat.
There remains no current threat to surrounding tenancies, nor have any of the surrounding buildings sustained damage.
Geelong Street remains closed and the community is asked to avoid the area.
