ACT’s new fire fighting vehicle on the road and soon to be on duty

ACT’s new aerial fire-fighting appliance was seen driving the streets in Macquarie today.

Whilst it’s yet to be formally commissioned and active on duty, we expect a formal announcement in the coming weeks.

Per the Canberra Times, the vehicle was reported to cost approximately 2.2 million dollars, however final costs and timing for deployment to serve our community has not been announced.

United Firefighters Union ACT branch secretary Greg McConville said in 2019 he welcomed the announcement of the new aerial appliance, he added that it was important for more aerial firefighting units to be on the ground as Canberra's population grew.

The Scania Rosenbauer appliance is expected to feature a 44-metre ladder and rescue platform and comes equipped with thermal cameras.
