Caravan destroyed by fire in Downer overnight
Firefighters have extinguished a caravan fire in the backyard of a Downer home overnight.
Just before midnight ACT Fire and Rescue responded to reports of a house fire on Northbourne Avenue.
Upon arrival they located a caravan on fire in the backyard of the home threatening neighbouring properties.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire and prevent it spreading to further structures.
It's believed the owner went for a walk to the shop returning to find the caravan completely destroyed.
ACT Fire and Rescue examined the scene and believe the fire was caused by a heating device inside the caravan, there were no reports of injuries.
Keep heaters well clear from items that might burn. A minimum of one metre clearance from clothes, bedding furniture, curtains and other combustibles is required to make your home safe.
Further home fire safety can be found on the ACT ESA Website.
