More than 50 people evacuated following fire at Gungahlin Mosque

More than 50 people have been evacuated after fire broke out in the roof of a mosque in Gungahlin this afternoon.

Just before 1pm ACT Fire and Rescue responded to reports of a structure fire on The Valley Avenue.

Upon arrival firefighters located smoke issuing from the roof od the structure.

Firefighters were able to quickly make access to the roof and using cutting tools accessed the seat of the fire.

The fire was able to be contained to a small area of the roof space preventing its spread throughout the building.

The cause of the fire is believed to be electrical.

There were no reports of injury.
