Man rescued following fire in Queanbeyan unit block overnight

A man has been rescued following a unit fire in Queanbeyan overnight.

Just after 9pm NSW and ACT Emergency Services responded to reports of a unit well alight with persons trapped inside.

Upon arrival firefighters located a unit on fire with heavy smoke throughout other units in the complex.

The fire was quickly contained to the unit of origin and firefighters conducted an urgent search of the complex for persons trapped inside.

A short time later a man believed to be aged in his 60's was found in the unit above where the fire had started and was escorted safely from the building using breathing apparatus.

The man was assessed on scene by NSW Ambulance Service paramedics and transported to hospital in a stable condition.

There were no reports of serious injury.

The cause of the fire remains unknown at this stage.
