28-year-old Man dies following crash on Federal Highway north of Canberra

A 28-year-old man has died following a head on crash on the Federal Highway north of Canberra.

At about 7.30am ACT and NSW Emergency Services responded to the Federal Highway near Bywong following reports of a crash.

A spokesperson for NSW Police said Police were been told a Ford Falcon station wagon, travelling south, and a Mercedes B-double truck, travelling north had collided head-on. The truck then swerved and collided with a Toyota Hilux utility.

The driver of the Ford- a 28-year-old man – died at the scene.

The drivers of the truck and utility were uninjured and are assisting police with inquiries.

The truck driver has also been taken to Queanbeyan Hospital to undergo mandatory testing.

A crime scene has been established and has been forensically examined as police commence an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

The southbound lanes of the Federal Highway remain closed with local traffic diversions in place. Motorists are urged to avoid the area and plan ahead as further delays are expected.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
