Severe storms take out power to nearly 6000 homes in Canberra's north

Severe storms have taken down powerlines across numerous suburbs in Canberra's north this afternoon.

As of 10pm the ACT Emergency Services agency said that they had received 203 calls for assistance following the storm which occurred just after 3pm.

Hail as large as 5cm fell over the area of Harrison & Franklin causing a significant number of homes and businesses to have leaking roofs.

Most of the electrical damage was in Hackett, Downer and Watson with most of the suburbs without power for several hours.

There were no reports of serious injury as a result of the storm, and almost all of the homes have had their power restored as of 10pm.
