Emergency services respond to more than 200 calls following storms in Canberra
Emergency Services have been kept busy this evening responding to more than 200 calls of assistance.
Very heavy rainfall came down across the city just after 4pm causing streets to flood and resulted in several cars stuck in floodwaters.
Also just after 4pm, there were reports that lightning had struck a gas main on Tweed Place in Kaleen causing it to catch fire, with firefighters remaining on scene for more than an hour ensuring the area was safe.
At about 4.30pm, ACT Emergency Services responded to reports of a motor vehicle accident involving a tree on Parkes Way near the Black Mountain Peninsula.
The vehicle was located on its roof in lane three with the tree blocking most of the road, the occupants of the vehicle were assessed by ACT Ambulance Service paramedics for non-life threatening injuries.
Parkes way was closed for a short period of time until the scene was cleared.
As of 8pm the ACT Emergency Services agency has received more than 200 calls for storm related assistance with crews from ACT SES, ACT RFS, ACT Fire and Rescue and TCCS crews working to clean up the mess left behind following the storm.
