Car fire sparks larger grass fire near Oaks Estate

A car fire has sparked a larger fire which burnt through over a hectare of grasslands near Oaks Estate this afternoon.

At about 3.50pm, ACT Fire and Rescue responded to reports of a car alight on Mountain Road, Jerrabomberra.

Upon arrival they located a car well alight with fire spread into the grasslands around it.

Due to the strong winds the fire spread quickly and several units from ACT Fire and Rescue and ACT Rural Fire Service responded to the scene.

The fire was eventually brought under control at about 5pm, with crews having to deal with a large number of high voltage powerlines in the area.

ACT Policing have commenced in investigation and enquiries are continuing.
