Firefighters contain bushfire on the Federal Highway

Firefighters have contained a bushfire just north of the ACT Border on the Federal Highway this afternoon.

At about 2pm NSW Rural Fire Service were called to reports of a bushfire on the Federal Highway at Eaglehawk.

The fire spread quickly putting the local service station and hotels under threat.

Resources from NSW RFS, Fire Rescue NSW, ACT Fire and Rescue, ACT RFS & ACT Parkes and Conservation Service responded quickly to the scene preventing it from moving further towards properties.

The Federal Highway was closed for about an hour while firefighters worked to extingish the fire that had burnt on both sides of the highway.

The fire was contained about 90 minutes later with no damage to buildings and no reports of injuries.

The cause of the fire is undetermined at this stage and is been investigatated.
