Home destroyed by fire in Hughes

A home has been destroyed by fire in Hughes this morning.

Just before 11am, ACT Fire and Rescue responded to reports of a house alight on Birdwood Street.

Upon arrival firefighters found the rear of a home well alight with fire spreading into the front of the premises.

The fire became hard to control as the structure began to collapse, with fire also threatening neighbouring properties.

During the height of the fire ACT Fire and Rescue had four Pumpers, an Aerial Appliance, Breathing Apparatus Support, a Rehab Pod, Hazmat, a Commander and a Superintendent on scene.

The fire was brought under control several hours later with firefighters containing the fire to the building of origin.
