Elderly lady lucky to be alive after fully grown gum tree falls on car

An elderly person is lucky to be alive after a full sized gum tree fell on hercar while driving in Ainslie this afternoon.

Just before 4pm ACT Emergency Services responded to reports of a motor vehicle crash where a tree had fallen on a car on Angas Street.

Upon arrival, crews were confronted with a large gumtree which had fallen onto a motor vehicle, with one elderly female trapped inside the vehicle.

ACT Ambulance Service Paramedics worked to stabilise the patient while firefighters commenced rescue operations. Using rescue equipment, firefighters extricated the patient from the car

ACT Ambulance Service treated one elderly lady for shock and minor injuries and she was transported to hospital.

ACT Fire and Rescue worked to clear the tree from the road for more than an hour.

ACT Policing were also in attendance.
