18-year-old woman facing court following alleged hit and run incident at Mt Ainslie lookout

An 18-year-old Calwell woman will face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Monday, 22 November 2021) in relation to an incident at the Mt Ainslie lookout in June, which resulted in a 26-year-old man suffering critical injuries.

At about 11.30pm on Thursday, 3 June 2021, ACT Emergency services were called to the Mt Ainslie lookout following reports a man had been hit by a car.

The 26-year-old man was found lying in the middle of the road unconscious.

It's believed CPR was administered prior to the arrival of ACT Ambulance Service paramedics.

The 26-year-old man was treated at the scene and stabilised by paramedics and transported to the Canberra Hospital in a critical condition.

Several people assisted ACT Policing’s Major Collisions Team throughout the investigation, which lead to an 18-year-old Calwell woman being identified as the driver of the vehicle involved in the incident. 

The 18-year-old will appear in the ACT Magistrate’s Court today to face charges of negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm and failing to give assistance after the collision.
