One home lost following fast moving grass fire northwest of Canberra
Firefighters are working to contain a large grass fire burning out of control 40km Northwest of Canberra.
Just after 3pm, firefighters responded to reports of a fast moving grass fire on Wee Jasper road, Narrangullen.
Firefighters faced difficult conditions with strong westerly winds and rugged terrain, as they were supported from above with large air tankers and waterbombing helicopters.
Despite the best efforts by firefighters, one home was lost on Wee Jasper Road.
Farmers did their best to move livestock from active fire but unfortunately several sheep were injured and have had to be euthanised.
About 70 firefighters worked to contain and protect property during the height of the fire.
Firefighters from across the Southern Tablelands and the ACT will work to contain the fire in favourable conditions this evening.
The size of the fire is currently 1904ha.
The NSW Rural Fire Service has the incident listed as "Advice" however travellers and residents in the area are asked to closely monitor the RFS website and mobile app for updates and follow the directions of emergency services.
