Two young girls charged with arson following fire in Canberra's North
Two girls will face the ACT Children’s Court today (Tuesday, 21 March 2023) charged with arson after a fire destroyed a granny flat on Monday evening (20 March 2023).
About 8.15pm last night the 12- and 13-year-old girls allegedly entered a one-bedroom flat at the front of the house where they lived and set fire to clothing belonging to the person residing in the flat.
An accelerant was used once the clothing was alight, and the fire spread within the granny flat, which was completely damaged by fire.
ACT Fire & Rescue firefighters extinguished the fire, and no person was injured during the incident.
