Fire crews work to extingish hybrid electric vehicle fire in Fyshwick
Firefighters have contained a hybrid vehicle fire inside a scrap metal facility in Fyshwick this afternoon.
Just after 1.30pm, ACT Fire & Rescue received a call to reports of a fire on Lithgow Street in Fyshwick.
Crews located a vehicle on fire at the location which had been partially pulled apart for scrap purposes.
The fire was contained quickly before it could spread to other parts of the site.
Firefighters and a staff member of the site could be seen in breathing apparatus due to the risk of poisoning from Hydrogen Fluoride gas being emitted from the burning battery.
The remains of the vehicle were placed in a large tank of water to prevent further thermal runaway.
Fire crews are expected to remain on scene for some time.
