Firefighters extinguish grass fire south of Canberra
Firefighters have extinguished a grass fire south of Canberra this afternoon.
At about 11am ACT Fire and Rescue and ACT Rural Fire Service responded to reports of an escaped landholder burn on Top Naas Road in Booth.
Upon arrival they located a 5 hectare grass fire spreading in several directions.
Firefighters were able to knock down the fire quickly and contain the fire with the assistance of the landholder and some machinery.
The ACT Emergency Services agency has said: "As the weather starts to warm up, and as we approach the ACT hazard season, this is a timely reminder to the community to ensure yourself, your family, and your home are prepared for a bush or grass fire. You can do this by completing a survival plan, preparing a home emergency kit, clearing leaves from gutters and downpipes, and learning about the hazard risks specific to your area."
