Man charged with attempted murder after two women stabbed at ANU
Two women have been transported to hospital and one person is in custody after a stabbing incident at Australian National University this afternoon.
At about 2.45pm, ACT Policing and ACT Ambulance Services were called to ANU following reports of a stabbing incident.
Police will allege that a 24-year-old man initially engaged a male student by hitting him on the head with a frying pan, with the student subsequently running away from the scene.
The 24-year-old then allegedly stabbed a 20-year-old female student multiple times before chasing a second 20-year-old female student and stabbing her.
The man then allegedly approached a second male student and punched him in the face.
Two 20-year-old female students were treated the scene for stab wounds and were transported to hospital, one in a critical condition and one in a stable condition.
Attending police were directed by witnesses to the location of the 24-year-old man and he was taken into custody. He was charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of assault and one count of possessing an object to be used to kill.
No specific motive for the incident has been identified.
