More than 100 evacuated following fire in Braddon overnight

More than 100 residents were evacuated following a fire in a Braddon dry cleaning business overnight.

Just after 11pm, ACT Fire and Rescue responded to reports of a structure fire on Lonsdale Street, Braddon.

Firefighters arrived to find significant amounts of smoke coming from the front of a business, and quickly got to work.

Police also responded quickly and assisted in the evacuations of the residential floors above.

The fire was quickly brought under control and contained to the room of origin.

An ACT Emergency Services Agency spokesperson said that there was significant smoke and water damage to the premises and there were no reports of serious injury.

Lonsdale Street remained closed while emergency services were in attendance.
