ACT SES responds to more than 280 requests for assistance following severe weather
The ACT State Emergency Service has received over 280 requests for assistance after a severe storm lashed the city yesterday.
At about 4.40pm the Australian Bureau of Metrology issued a warning for a very dangerous severe thunderstorm moving towards the ACT.
Storms primarily impacted Canberra's north bringing down trees across roadways, onto homes and vehicles.
Golf ball hail was also observed in the Gungahlin area, with some reports of damaged roofs as a result.
Teams from ACTSES, ACT Rural Fire Service, ACT Fire & Rescue, TCCS and NSW SES have been working since 4pm yesterday and have completed more than half of these jobs as of 2pm today.
High soil moisture may cause more downed trees, even after the storm has passed. With many fallen trees and branches across the territory already, we ask the community to be cautious around large trees.
