Bomb response team called after a suspected explosive device was found at a building site in Evatt

The AFP Bomb Response team were called out to a building site in Evatt this morning after a device resembling a pipe bomb was located.

At about 10am, builders located a a metal pipe on the ground out the front of a building site on Owen Dixon Drive and quickly called police.

Police quickly attended and closed down the street calling in specialist officers from AFP's Bomb Response Team.

The pipe was picked up by a robot and placed into a bomb containment chamber for a short period before being placed in another container and taken away by police.

The area was declared safe and police reopened the roads just after 1pm.

There were no reports of injury.
