Firefighters battle large fire at a Fyshwick Mechanic

Firefighters have extinguished a fire at a Fyshwick Mechanic workshop this afternoon

At about 3.10pm, ACT Fire and Rescue received numerous '000' calls to a fire on Newcastle Street.

Upon arrival they located a workshop well alight with fire threatening neighbouring buildings.

Several neighbouring properties ran hose lines in an effort to contain the fire with reports of flames 10 meters high and 5 meters wide.

An ACT ESA spokesperson said 4 pumpers, a Breathing Apparatus Support van, a Hazmat Van and a Commander responded to the scene.

There were no reports of serious injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
