Man charged with murder following altercation in Symonston

A 49-year-old Symonston man has been charged with murder following an altercation with a man known to him on Monday afternoon.

About 5:30pm on Monday (15 September 2025), police received a call from the 49-year-old man stating that another man was lying unconscious at his front door after the pair allegedly got into an altercation.

Police arrived at the residence at the Southside Village Caravan Park in Symonston shortly after and commenced CPR on the man before ACT Ambulance Service paramedics arrived and took over his resuscitation.

The 34-year-old man (who also lived at the Caravan Park) was transported to The Canberra Hospital in a critical condition. He was pronounced deceased earlier today (Friday, 19 September 2025).

Police arrested the 49-year-old man at the scene at the time of the incident and he was charged with recklessly inflict grievous bodily harm. Today (Friday, 19 September 2025) that charge was upgraded to one count of murder.

ACT Policing Homicide Squad detectives would like to speak to anyone who has information about the two men and their interactions, including anyone who may have spoken to either of them prior to 5.30pm on Monday.
