Man seriously injured following utility and fuel tanker collision on the Federal Highway

A man and young boy have been transported to hospital following a collision involving a fuel tanker on the Federal Highway this morning.

Just before 10am, ACT and NSW Emergency Services responded to reports of a motor vehicle crash on the Federal Highway at Bywong.

Upon arrival emergency services found that a utility and fuel tanker had collided near the intersection of Donelly Road.

A man in his 40's was trapped in the utility due to his injuries and was assisted onto a stretcher by ACT Fire and Rescue, he was then treated on scene by NSW Ambulance Service paramedics and transported to The Canberra hospital in a serious condition.

A young boy who was also in the utility was treated at the scene and transported to hospital in a stable condition.

The Driver of the truck was uninjured and was transported to Queanbeyan hospital for mandatory testing.

The Federal Highway was closed southbound for several hours with traffic being diverted onto the Old Federal Highway, since then a contraflow has been established.

Holiday traffic remains heavy in the area.
